Elphin-Stoned

आमची मुंबई gets a special treatment from the government. The recent stampede on the foot-over bridge at Prabhadevi local station (formerly known as Elphinstone), which almost killed 23 people, has struck people so hard that engineers had to be given help by the Indian army.

Yes, our CM, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, has declared that the construction of the foot-over bridges at the Elphinstone Rd, Currey Rd and Ambivalli will be carried out the 'jawans' of our nation. However, some people do have an opposite reaction.

Opposing to this decision, the Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh said that this work is of the PWD and CPWD department (Central Public Work Department) and that the army should be on charge on the borders doing their respective duties.

Contradicting to his statement over here - the army was summoned to 'help' in various other situations such as the Bailey Bridge in Thiruvananthapuram, just in February, and the one constructed in 2010 for Common Wealth Games at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.

It is, indeed, a great work by the army to help the citizens of India, for India, to get developed, but recruiting them in for the work which can be done by the other municipal departments is like calling an ambulance to extinguish fire! Army is a support , no doubt, but we have to take our own responsibilities.

But as for now, I congratulate Mumbai, my city, for the new FOB's.
